Testimonial
“This has been a truly positive experience. They take the time to listen, believe in your ideas, and work collaboratively to develop new ways of thinking. The support from the wider team is always there when you need it, creating a real sense of partnership. They understand the values and pressures of general practice and uphold them with integrity and respect while maintaining the longstanding foundations of our Practice.”
Samantha Miles
Practice Manager, Ripon Spa Surgery
Strong relationship with patients
Having successfully built and developed the practice over a long period of time, the partners began looking for a way to continue enjoying the clinical aspects of general practice, while stepping away from the increasing pressures of managing a modern NHS surgery.
Like many partners across the country, they wanted more balance — the ability to focus on patients, support their team, and enjoy greater freedom from the growing managerial, operational, and financial burdens that general practice can bring.
After years of building and developing the practice, the partners wanted to focus more on patient care and team support while stepping away from the increasing managerial and operational pressures of modern general practice.
Joining the group
On 1st April 2025, Ripon Spa Surgery joined our wider group through a supportive and carefully managed transition process.
From the beginning, the aim was to preserve everything that made the practice successful:
Continuity for patients
Stability for staff
Local identity and culture
Strong clinical leadership
Long-term sustainability
The existing practice team remained in place, including the Practice Manager, dispensing team, and clinical staff.
The Patient Participation Group and local NHS stakeholders were fully engaged throughout the process, helping ensure the transition remained collaborative, transparent, and positive.
A focus on work-life balance
- The partners continued within the practice in clinical leadership roles, allowing them to remain closely connected to their patients, staff, and community.
- At the same time, the wider group structure helped relieve much of the day-to-day managerial, operational, and financial pressure associated with running a modern GP practice.
- This created space for the partners to focus more on clinical care, mentorship, leadership, and personal wellbeing — while still seeing the practice they had built continue to grow and thrive.
- The practice has retained its own identity and continuity of care, while benefiting from the additional resilience, operational support, and shared expertise that comes from being part of a larger organisation.
Supporting people to grow
The local Practice Manager continued leading the surgery and also progressed into a wider senior leadership role across the group.
This provided an opportunity to further develop her career, contribute strategically across multiple practices, and share her experience more broadly — while remaining closely connected to the local team and community she knows so well.
Looking ahead
Ripon Spa Surgery continues to serve its community with the same local identity and continuity patients value.
Alongside this, discussions are underway regarding future expansion and development of the premises, with the aim of creating enhanced facilities for both patients and staff in the years ahead.
Ripon Spa Surgery continues to serve patients with the same trusted local identity, while plans for future development and improved facilities are being explored to benefit both patients and staff.
